Pricing Cars: Why It Is Not As Easy As You Think?

How to price my car?

This is without any doubt the most punishing question that a seller of used car confronts.

Even people, who have purchased a new car a few months ago, find it is not listed when they venture out to check its price.

Why is it so?

This is not unusual because even the most authoritative automobile valuation companies find it difficult to price a car due to the following reasons:
  • Fair price of a car can only be evaluated, if actual transactions have taken place in the market.
  • A good number of cars have not been sold in different markets to establish a realistic price.
Typically, a fair purchase price is one that people pay to a dealer for buying a used car. Ideally, the car must be in good condition.

There are other important considerations as well. The vehicle must be fully reconditioned and must have a clean title history.

If I do get an inkling of a fair price and price my car, is it better to sell it on my own or trade it in?

There is no one answer to this question. It all depends on your personal preference. A dealer prices a car taking into consideration reconditioning, advertising costs, sales commissions, and covering risks related to mechanical and safety problems of the car.

You do have a chance to get more for your car, provided you are willing to put a lot of effort in it.

This will entail making your car in a saleable condition, if necessary by detailing it and keeping the performance parts in good working condition.

Consider the value of your time. For all you are worth, it is probably worthwhile selling your car through a dependable agent.

Easy Car Buyers is providing an uncomplicated way for customers to sell their cars. The agency provides quotes free of charge, promptly pays the agreed price in any mode, and collects the car from the customers’ premises free of cost.

  1. A very useful article. One more tip for the seller. He or she must update used values from time to time. These change rapidly.

  2. If your car has alarm systems, heated seats or any such enhancements, list it out. These add value to your car.

  3. Do not overrate your car by stating it is in excellent condition. As per automobile valuation companies, only 3 percent of vehicles in the market are in excellent condition.
